Traditional butter dish for storing butter outside the refrigerator. It was used in times when there were no refrigerators on farms, especially in dairy areas such as Normandy (France).
It consists of two parts: a base that contains water, and a top (or inverted lid) where the butter is placed.
The butter is placed at room temperature in the inverted lid, compacting it so that there are no air pockets.
The base is filled with water (sometimes slightly salted) to such a level that, when the lid with the butter is inverted and fitted onto the base, the butter is submerged and sealed against the water. The water forms a barrier, preventing the butter from coming into direct contact with oxygen. Being isolated from the air, the butter stays fresher, does not go rancid quickly and remains easy to spread, without the need for refrigeration.
It is important to change the water every 2-3 days.
Material: Off white stoneware fired at 1250º – off white matte glaze
Capacity: approximately 250gr
Material: Gres blanco-crema cocido a 1250º – esmalte color piedra mate
Capacidad: approx 250gr
