HIGH TEMPERATURE GLAZES COURSE given by ANA FELIPE.

Ana is a visual artist with a degree in ceramics from the Escuela Superior de Diseño y Artes de Valencia where she trained with Enrique Mestre. She has extensive training in other related plastic activities such as volume, painting, photography and engraving. This artistic training was acquired early on in private painting studies in Zaragoza, at the Escuela de Artes de Zaragoza, and later in Valencia where she moved to specialize in ceramics. After finishing her studies in Valencia she attended a seminar with David Leach, and obtained a scholarship for the “seminars of ceramic studies” in Sargadelos (Lugo) where she collaborated in a project with Arcadio Blasco, and in Vizcaya from 1990 to 1999. She began learning engraving techniques in the Basque artists’ collective Antxesaleak, later taking several courses in Bilbao, Fundación Goya-Fuendetodos and at the Escuela Superior de Diseño y Artes de Zaragoza.

She currently lives and works in a house-workshop (with spaces for working in the disciplines of ceramics, engraving and photography) in Villanueva de Huerva (Zaragoza), a town located between Muel, a village with a great ceramic tradition dating back centuries, and Fuendetodos, Goya’s hometown with a great deal of graphic activity. She has participated in numerous collective and individual exhibitions both nationally and internationally (France, Germany, Morocco, Colombia, United States, Japan). Without showing any interest in participating in competitions, for more than 20 years she has focused her activity alternating her personal and creative work in her studio with research and teaching activities, having been a teacher, among other centres; in the Professional Association of Artists Antxesaleak (Vizcaya), Professional Association of Ceramists of Cantabria, Workshops of the “Fundación Pilar y Joan Miró” of Palma de Mallorca, University of Tolima (Colombia), Workshop School of Ceramics of the Provincial Council of Zaragoza in Muel, where she gives numerous courses and creates “the library of samples and ceramic covers”, in the Superior School of Design and Art of Zaragoza, in the master “Ceramics; art and function” of the department of sculpture of Fine Arts of the University of the Basque Country.

She worked as head of the workshop and teacher at the “Antonio Saura” Printmaking Workshop of the Goya-Fuendetodos Foundation, and created “step-by-step” didactics and designs for national and international publishers such as RBA, Altaya, Orbis, Planeta de Agostini, Collector, etc.
Ana Felipe’s research and teaching spirit has led her to recover some ceramic decorative techniques and to investigate the possibilities and application of techniques such as the “metallic reflection” and glazes of traditional Arabic tiles, Raku firing, brush decoration and the methods of formulation and study of other ceramic glazes for current plastic art.

CONTENT AND PRACTICE:
The course will consist of theoretical and practical programming, alternating the time between tests and firings, with projections and theoretical explanations. We will explain the basic fundamentals to be able to make our own high temperature glaze bases from raw materials. We will see the function and the balance that must exist between the materials to obtain the desired results of transparent, opacified and coloured bases. We use the scientific method for learning; the work will be done with methods of experimentation and progressive, logical and very didactic analysis, carrying out samples with binary, triaxial and tetraxial methods. We will carry out high temperature firings, explaining in detail the phases and the importance of firing curves. The course is experimental and the approach is to make samples giving the maximum importance to learning, elaboration of recipes and analysis of results when leaving the kiln, so that each participant can then get the most out of it and the knowledge to manage on their own once the course is over, and documentation of what has been worked on during the course will be handed out.

( Workshop will be given in English )

Tickets to our workshops are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. However, if you can no longer attend, you may transfer your ticket to a friend. To do this, please contact us with your friend’s name prior to the workshop date. Thanks for understanding!
